On Saturday, June 14th, 2025, Sun and Shield School opened its doors to parents, teachers, and Grade 9 students for a special event focused on career pathways and future planning. The Grade 9 Parents, Teachers, and Students Career Pathway Meeting wasn’t just another school gathering; it was a powerful moment of connection, clarity, and shared purpose. With the Competency-Based Curriculum now shaping learners' journeys, the school community came together to help students take their next step with confidence.
The day began with a warm and thoughtful welcome from the Headteacher, who set the tone for the conversations ahead. He reminded everyone that choosing subjects is more than an academic decision; it's about laying the foundation for a fulfilling future. “Today is not just about choosing subjects or schools, it’s about setting the foundation for a lifetime of purpose, fulfillment, and success,” he shared. His words captured the heart of the event: supporting young people as they discover who they are and what they’re meant to do.
Next up was the Deputy Headteacher, who broke down the three key pathways available under the CBC: STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics), Social Sciences, and Arts & Sports Science. With practical examples and relatable stories, he helped students and parents understand how each path connects to real-world careers and personal interests. “The right path is not the most popular one, it’s the one that fits your passion, skills, and purpose,” he said, sparking plenty of thoughtful questions and meaningful discussions.
One of the most memorable moments came when former School President, Maliq Kibet, delivered a heartfelt speech on behalf of the School Director. The message focused on the importance of following one’s passion when making career decisions, not just doing what’s expected, but choosing what brings joy and meaning. “When you choose with passion, you work with joy, and you grow with purpose,” the Director’s message read. Maliq’s confident delivery brought the words to life and left many inspired.
What stood out throughout the event was the spirit of partnership. From the interactive Q&A sessions to the smaller conversations happening all around the room, it was clear that students, parents, and teachers were on this journey together. It was a true reflection of the school’s commitment to collaboration, listening, guiding, and supporting every learner, every step of the way.
By the end of the day, students walked away with clearer goals, parents felt more involved, and teachers felt energized to continue the work of nurturing young minds. At Sun and Shield School, education is about more than just textbooks and exams; it’s about helping students find their purpose and prepare for life beyond the classroom. And on this day, that mission was beautifully lived out, together.
