When I first walked into Sun and Shield, I was just a little kid in daycare. Back then, I didn’t understand much. Honestly, I was probably more interested in break time than anything else. But now, looking back, I realize how much the school and I have grown together. I’ve had a front-row seat to the transformation of this amazing place, and it’s been a journey full of beautiful changes.
I still remember when we had just a few classrooms and a small playground. There were only about three or four school buses. Today, we have modern buildings, well-equipped classrooms, a library, computer labs, new buses, and even spaces for skating and sports. Our environment has truly become a place built for learning and discovery.
In those early years, we were just starting to build our academic name. Today, Sun and Shield students are consistently ranked among the top in Nakuru County, year after year. We’ve watched KCPE scores rise and more students join national schools. Our teachers have grown too, becoming more specialized, more creative, and even more inspiring.
When I joined, music and sports were mostly just fun activities. Now, we compete at county and national levels in music festivals, sports tournaments, and other competitions. There are more clubs, leadership opportunities, and talent showcases for everyone. We never used to have so many clubs and activities, but today, we enjoy exciting programs like skating, cookery, the 4K Club, Red Cross, and more. These activities equip us with practical knowledge and skills to solve everyday challenges.
From morning devotions in daycare to powerful chapel sessions now, one thing that hasn’t changed—but has only deepened—is the school’s commitment to Christian values. Weekly themes, chaplaincy programs, and mentorship have shaped us into not just good students but good people. I love that students are given the chance to preach and teach the Word of God, rather than relying only on the chaplain or teachers. It helps us take up leadership roles and grow as well-disciplined individuals.
When I was young, leadership felt so far away. But today, prefects, class monitors, and even blog teams (like this one!) are encouraged to speak up, lead well, and leave a mark. Students are more involved in making school life better every day.
Sun and Shield has been like a second home to me. I’ve seen it grow, and I’ve grown with it too. I’m excited for what’s next, and through this blog, I hope we can all celebrate what makes this school so special. Sun and Shield is more than just a school to me; it’s a part of my story.
I’m proud of what Sun and Shield has become, and I can’t wait to see where we go next. Together with our school president, we’ll keep exploring what makes Sun and Shield unique and share voices from across the campus.
From daycare to now, it’s been quite a ride. I’ve watched this school grow, and somehow, it has helped me grow too.
The journey isn’t over…but I’m glad I get to tell the story from the inside.
