It’s hard to believe that 2025 marks the end of my twelve-year journey at Sun and Shield Primary & Junior School—the only school I have ever known. When I first walked through those gates in 2014 as a little girl in the reception class, I could never have imagined how much this place would shape me. Today, as I prepare to graduate as a pioneer Grade Nine KJSEA 2025 finalist, my heart is full of gratitude, pride, and reflection.
Where It All Began
I still remember my first day—tiny backpack, new uniform, and wide-eyed wonder. Sun and Shield welcomed me with warmth and love. It didn’t take long before it felt like a second home. The teachers, the laughter, the friendships—all became part of who I am. This school has been the place where I learned to read, write, dream, and believe in myself.
Over the years, I have realized that Sun and Shield is not just a school—it’s a community that nurtures hearts, minds, and purpose. Every lesson, every activity, and every experience has been carefully designed to help us grow not just academically, but as human beings with strong values and big dreams.
More Than Books and Exams
At Sun and Shield, learning goes far beyond the classroom. Yes, we study hard, but we are also taught the importance of discipline, kindness, and resilience. Programs like Guidance and Counselling, chapel services, and PPI sessions have helped me build emotional strength and moral grounding.
Whenever challenges came my way—whether it was academic pressure or personal loss—the school stood by me. I’ve experienced how deeply this community cares. The teachers and counsellors were always there to guide, listen, and remind me that every setback is just another step toward success.
Discovering My Talents and Passions
One of the most beautiful parts of my journey has been exploring my talents through clubs and extracurricular activities. Sun and Shield believes in giving every student the chance to shine. From sports and music to debate, coding and robotics, crochet, chess, and service clubs like Red Cross, Scouts, and St. John Ambulance, there was always something new to discover.
Among these experiences, my music talent stands out as one of my greatest blessings. It was here that my gift was nurtured and sharpened through my active participation in the school girls’ choir. With the guidance of our dedicated music teachers and the support of my fellow choristers, I had the incredible opportunity to represent my school at the National Kenya Music Festivals in 2023 and 2024.
Those moments remain some of my proudest. All our items took position one and two nationally, a testament to the hard work, unity, and passion that Sun and Shield instills in every performer. Through music, I learned discipline, confidence, and the joy of expressing myself—lessons that will continue to inspire me for years to come.
Each club and talent avenue taught me something valuable—teamwork, leadership, creativity, and the courage to try again even after failing. I learned that learning is not only about what happens inside the classroom, but also what happens when you step out of your comfort zone and take part in something bigger than yourself.
Guided by Great Mentors
I owe so much to my teachers and the entire staff. They have been more than educators—they have been mentors, motivators, and friends. They taught us not just to pass exams, but to pursue excellence with integrity and humility. Their dedication has inspired me to always give my best and to approach life with confidence and purpose.
They saw potential in me even when I didn’t see it in myself, and for that, I’ll always be grateful.

Lessons That Will Stay With Me Forever
Now, as I stand on the edge of a new chapter, I find myself reflecting on the lessons I’ll carry with me:
-
That character matters more than titles.
 -
That compassion is a strength, not a weakness.
 -
That success is built through perseverance and faith.
 -
And that every dream begins with believing you can.

Sun and Shield has given me more than an education—it has given me a foundation for life. The friendships I’ve made, the values I’ve learned, and the memories I’ve built here will forever remain close to my heart.
A Message to My Peers
To all my fellow students—especially those just beginning their school journey—know that every small step you take matters. Treasure your time in school. Be curious, be kind, and never stop learning. Embrace challenges, because they shape your strength. Find joy in the little things and courage in every opportunity.
And to my younger peers at Sun and Shield: continue to uphold the school’s spirit. Remember that you are part of something special—a place that believes in your potential and prepares you to shine beyond the classroom walls.
A Message to Our Directors
To our esteemed Directors—thank you for your vision, dedication, and unwavering faith that built this great institution. You believed in the power of small beginnings and created a space where countless dreams have taken root and flourished.
If the God of Sun and Shield, the God of small beginnings (Job 8:7), continues to honour and favour your growth, may He make your dream and vision of a Senior School and University come true.
May Psalm 84:11 be your portion forever, and may God always expand your territories, blessing the work of your hands and the generations that follow.
Forever Grateful
As I say goodbye to my beloved school, I do so with immense gratitude. Sun and Shield Primary & Junior School has been my home for twelve unforgettable years. It has taught me to dream boldly, serve selflessly, and walk in purpose.
Though I am leaving, a part of me will always belong here. Sun and Shield is where my story began—and its lessons will guide me for the rest of my life.
With love and pride,
