At Sun and Shield School, faith is more than an idea — it is a lifestyle, a calling, and a commission. Since opening our doors to Bible Translation and Literacy (BTL) in 2022, we have had the privilege of walking and running alongside them in the noble mission of bringing God’s Word to communities that have never had the Bible in their heart language. This year marked our fourth participation in the Run for the Bibleless initiative, and it was a moment of deep reflection, growth, and renewed commitment.
On Saturday, June 21st, we were honoured to host the BTL team led by their Executive Director, Rev. Peter Munguti, for a special partnership visit. The occasion brought together learners, staff, and leadership for an impactful session celebrating the journey so far and reinforcing the shared vision for reaching Bibleless communities.
Our school leadership, represented by Prof. Gladys Jerobon (Director) and Prof. Henry Kiplangat (Chairman), warmly received the team and affirmed the school’s unwavering support for the translation work. The meeting was also graced by several dedicated members of our staff, including Head Teacher Mr. Kangogo, Deputy Head Teacher and Junior School Chaplain Mr. Ndung’u JM, School Chaplain Mr. Ongili, ECD Chaplain Madam Veronicah, Lower Primary Chaplain Madam Mideva Caroline, and Worship Pastor, Pastor Kenneth Kithinji.
This testimony, along with many others, reflected the deep moral and spiritual transformation happening within our school. Our former School President, Maliq Kibet, was also remembered for his leadership and advocacy during past runs, especially in mobilizing fellow learners to participate wholeheartedly in the cause.
In her address, Prof. Gladys remarked that over the years, the number of learners engaging meaningfully with biblical values has grown. Prof. Henry Kiplangat echoed these sentiments, emphasizing that through this partnership, students are developing a heart for missions and a deep understanding of God's call to share His Word with the nations.
Even in our geographically limited environment, we have discovered that through running, praying, and giving, we can still reach far. Our students, now more than ever, understand the importance of making the Word of God available to communities like the Marakwet and Tugen, and they have committed to pray consistently for these groups.
As we reflect on Psalm 84:11, “For the Lord God is a sun and shield; the Lord bestows favor and honor; no good thing does He withhold from those whose walk is blameless”, we remain firm in our mission. Sun and Shield School will continue to raise young people who walk blamelessly, run purposefully, and live out the gospel, one step, one prayer, and one Bibleless community at a time.
